3D printing a new way to do surgeries

Dr. Adnan SheikhIn 2016, The Ottawa Hospital was the first hospital in Canada to have an integrated medical 3D printing program for pre-surgical planning and education. An accurate 3D-printed model, based on a CT scan or MRI, of a patient’s bones or organs can help surgeons determine the best surgical procedure, which also reduces operating times and cost. Eventually, 3D printers at The Ottawa Hospital will fabricate surgical tools, customized prosthetics, and even living tissues and organs. 3D printing is revolutionizing the way we do surgery at The Ottawa Hospital.
