Development Officer, Community Engagement & Business Development

Reporting to the Director, Community Engagement & Business Development, the Development Officer, is responsible for supporting revenue objectives related to business development for our two participant based events: THE RIDE and Run for a Reason. This position will be focused on the renewal, cultivation and stewardship of our event teams and individual participants for these signature events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit philanthropic support by developing and maintaining relationships with prospective event participants and teams
  • Proactively support and develop effective and innovative approaches to business development solicitation strategies to acquire new event participants and teams
  • Deliver presentations to corporate and community partners, prospects and event participants
  • Collaborate with internal (communications, donor relations etc.) to facilitate the development of presentations, promotional and recognition collateral for assigned events
  • Attend cultivation, recognition or stewardship activities as required

Experience

  • Minimum of three to five year of progressive experience working in a fundraising and/or business development role for an organization of similar scope and complexity – in the not for profit sector is an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Work cooperatively with members of team; contribute to development of a team environment where team members ultimately achieve established goals
  • Use communications strategies in an effort to achieve team goals, influence and gain others' support
  • Effectively plan and organize self and/or others to achieve goals, prioritize tasks and allocate time and resources to ensure completion within set timelines and fast-paced environment
  • Identify problems, implement solutions and evaluate the outcomes
  • Make decisions involving varied levels of risk and ambiguity. Risk assessment and management (emergency planning)
  • Seek and build alliances with internal and external stakeholders to meet their needs and further TOHF's objectives
  • Experience in SharePoint, Microsoft Suites, Artez, TeamRaiser, Raiser’s Edge/database software is considered an asset

Operational Requirements

  • Access to a vehicle and valid driver’s license
  • Willingness and ability to work outside of regular business hours is required
  • Bilingualism, French and English, is a definite asset
