April 8, OTTAWA, ON – Eight doctors from The Ottawa Hospital traded their lab coats for dance shoes at an unforgettable evening. The third annual Dancing with the Docs fundraiser, which took place at the Hilton Lac Leamy, showcased the ballroom skills of eight physicians from The Ottawa Hospital.
After months of rigorous training, these eight physicians took to the dance floor, leaving their comfort zone behind to compete for the coveted Medicine Ball trophy.
More than 700 guests and a panel of three judges were entertained by each performance. The judges carefully critiqued each competitor and then combined those scores with votes which were purchased to support each doctor. After the final tally, Dr. Roanne Segal walked away the champion.
The true winner tonight was The Ottawa Hospital and its patients. More than $160,000 was raised to support care and research. Tim Kluke, President of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation, said it was a great night. “Each one of our physicians was dancing for an area of the hospital that’s meaningful to them. That might be our new Breast Health Centre, cancer care or cancer research, and even vision research. So our docs were highly motivated to support their area of work.”
After the competition wrapped up, the dance floor opened up, and for a few hours, these physicians were able to relax before getting back to the critical work they are a part of at The Ottawa Hospital.
