Building bridges to save lives

The Bridge

Bridge: a structure spanning and providing passage. The Bridge Engagement Centre is providing safe passage for people with addiction in Ottawa. The work at The Bridge is led by Dr. Smita Pakhale, a clinician-scientist at the Ottawa Hospital and Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.

As a part of the Run for a Reason, The Bridge team will be raising money to support the work by Dr. Pakhale. Work which team captain Ted Bignell has seen firsthand and he credits for getting his life on track. “The Bridge is a key part of my journey. The different programs and activities at the Bridge give me a sense of a community and belonging.”

For Ted, The Bridge Engagement Centre has been key in helping him with his addiction. “I have been able to receive one-on-one counselling and quit smoking aids to reduce my smoking, in addition to life skills training and job ready training that will prepare me for re-entry into the workforce. I always liked to work and hope to be independent again.”

Just another good example of how you can support The Ottawa Hospital and Run for a Reason on May 27 - 28 at Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend.
