Recently, Calian employees wrapped up their annual charitable giving campaign in support of cancer care at The Ottawa Hospital. The Ottawa Hospital Foundation is grateful to have been included in their charitable giving for the second year in a row.
Calian is among ten Ottawa area businesses who have come together to form the 2013-14 White Coat Challenge. Every year in our region, 9,000 people are diagnosed with cancer, and last year alone, The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre treated 24,000 cancer patients. The Ottawa Hospital is investing in leading-edge cancer care by creating a Molecular Oncology Diagnostic Laboratory. This lab will allow our physicians to conduct genetic testing to develop more personalized treatment plans for cancer patients. Local companies have chosen to collectively raise funds to help equip the new molecular lab with a capillary sequencer, an important piece of equipment used for DNA sequencing to check for gene mutations.
“Our employees were so keen to raise funds for this cause because they know that cancer touches everyone at some point. They know that establishing this lab [Molecular Oncology Diagnostics Laboratory] in Ottawa will bring an end to the one-size-fits-all treatment for cancer patients in our region,” Says Kevin Ford, Calian’s President of Business and Technologies Services.
Calian and the White Coat Challenge are helping ensure patients – your loved ones – have access to leading-edge cancer diagnostics and therapies. Thank you, Calian, your generous contribution will help patients for years to come.
Since its inception in 2011, members of the White Coat Challenge have raised over a quarter of a million dollars in support of cancer care in our community. Last year, they raised funds to purchase an important software upgrade for the CyberKnife. To see the impact of their generosity, please click here.
