Community Embraces Historic Campaign

This past year, the message was loud and clear: the Ottawa community has embraced the importance of our Campaign to Create Tomorrow and wants to ensure a better healthcare future, right here in Ottawa. In April, we celebrated the one-year anniversary of the campaign by announcing commitments of $268 million had been received — we had surpassed the halfway point of our ambitious $500-million goal. We’re thrilled to update you that our latest total is $294 million and counting!

More than 100 years ago, on the heels of the First World War and a devastating global influenza pandemic, Ottawa Mayor Harold Fisher pushed hard for the construction of the Ottawa Civic Hospital and for a thoroughly progressive vision of medicine. With that one decision, he and his supporters would improve the lives of every citizen of Ottawa and help lay the foundation for a century of healthcare advances in Canada.

Now, here we are, emerging from another pandemic and amidst the largest fundraising campaign in our region’s history, where so many donors have stepped forward to participate in whatever way they can. Their generosity is proof that our community is ready to once again come together in a defining moment to reshape the future of healthcare.

We will all benefit from the success of this campaign, which supports the construction of The Ottawa Hospital’s new campus and takes groundbreaking research to unprecedented heights. You will read about both in the following report, along with inspiring stories and words of gratitude from our patients. Thank you for making these success stories possible through your support.

While there is still a great deal of work to do to reach our campaign goal, we know the community is rallying behind us. We have the momentum and vision we need to achieve success.

Sincerely,

Our Plan for the Future

In the coming years, our commitment to inspiration and empowerment, innovation in all its forms, and the importance of human connection will be the underpinning of everything we accomplish. These ideals are captured in the title of our plan, Connect, Inspire, Transform, and are woven throughout our five strategic objectives.

Today, we are ready to execute the most exciting and ambitious plan in Foundation history. We are thrilled to work to fulfil our vision and become the most efficient, effective, and respected hospital foundation in Canada. And we are honoured to play a role in the transformation of healthcare for generations to come.

Accreditations

After submitting 250+ data points for consideration, our Foundation has received the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) high-performer status for the 11th consecutive year. This status is only given to organizations who rate in the top 25% based on total funds raised, cost to raise a dollar, return on investment, and other key industry metrics.

“We are proud of our long-standing track record for being one of the most efficient and effective hospital foundations in Canada. We hope this gives our donors additional confidence that the Foundation is well managed, and that their support is making an impact.”

Tim Kluke, President & CEO, The Ottawa Hospital Foundation

With your help, we have been successful in creating an environment of excellence. In fact, The Ottawa Hospital has been accredited with Exemplary Standing for healthcare delivery — the highest rating from Accreditation Canada.

We have also again been selected as one of the National Capital Region’s Top Employers (2022) and are proud to be ranked as one of the top research hospitals in Canada.
