LH Civic61 vertical — End of a nursing era

DID YOU KNOW?

On September 1, 1973, the Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing ceased to be. The provincial government transferred responsibility for diploma programs of nursing from Ontario’s 56 hospitals and regional nursing schools to community colleges like Algonquin. That ended a half-century of nursing education at the Civic that had trained more than 4,200 nurses. But it marked a new beginning, too, moving nursing education into mainstream education.
