Indigenous Vendor Market — “Share your story” Report

The Wabano Centre and Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition’s “Share Your Story” report exposed the harsh reality of anti-Indigenous racism in healthcare, demanding a transformation to ensure equitable care for all.

The Ottawa Hospital is committed to a journey of reconciliation and to ensuring First Nations, Inuit, and Métis patients and families have access to safe healthcare, free of discrimination. The guidance of Indigenous patients and families, health care leaders, communities and staff is critical to the success of The Ottawa Hospital’s actions toward culturally safe care.

Today’s priorities include developing a cultural safety learning program for all staff, physicians, volunteers and learners, a cultural foods program and hiring a safe care navigator in the Civic Emergency Department.

These and other tangible actions are identified in the Indigenous Engagement Framework and Action Plan.
