This photo of my grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Goswell, was taken in 1938 outside the nurse’s residence, which is now the Parkdale Clinic at the Civic. She told me the Kaminski Room (formerly known as the Blue Room — maybe because it was painted blue? ) was where the “gentlemen callers” would come to meet their dates (nursing students), and the Head Mistress had a strict rule they didn’t get past the doors! My grandmother’s gentleman caller was an RCMP officer, and they were very happily married for 44 years until his passing. I’ve read the most adorable love letters he wrote to her when stationed all over Canada. She passed away in 2010 at age 90.
