This scan is a receipt for services I received 80 years ago at the Civic Hospital. There was no OHIP in those days, so my father paid $20 in advance, a down payment so to speak, which appears as the first entry in the account. I was in hospital from August 28 to 31, with treatment in the OR and some lab work, and we came home with a small refund of $1.75, the last entry in the account. The surgeon, Dr. Paterson, was paid separately, about $10 or $15. As an aside, I remember, at age 16, being swept away by the student nurses in their starched uniforms!
