My Civic MOMENT comes daily when I see the buildings that made up the original Civic Hospital, which is a daily occurrence for me. Seeing the original buildings evokes a sense of family for me as my late mother trained there as a nurse during the Second World War. She left home on the family farm near Kinburn to come to Ottawa to train and, of course, she stayed in the Nurses’ Residence. She graduated in 1944, the 858 Registered Nurse to graduate. The attached is an image her original graduation photo, her certificate and her pin. I am proud of her accomplishments and that she continued to work as an RN right up to her death in 1965.
