I was born Dec 22nd 1960 at the Civic Hospital. My Mother and I spent our first Christmas at the Civic where I was apparently brought to my Mom in a Christmas stocking.

In July 1980 I started working on 1ES a medical ward with Mrs. Peters as our head nurse. She was firm, professional and dedicated. There was visitor , a world dignitary who would have to pass our ward to visit a very prominent Canadian parliamentarian who had suffered a serious stroke. After this royal visit, our ward received the most beautiful huge bouquet of roses to brighten our very busy, crowded and outdated ward.

There was an older man who wore a suit and constantly took photos of hospital life at the Civic His photos would be a historical treasure trove
I believe he was a retired employee. I do not recall his name.

There are many remarkable memories, for me as a young RN , I remember when the Cardiac Unit transferred into the new state-of-the-art U of Ottawa Heart Institute, working under the world-famous Dr. W. Keon, and my head nurse extraordinaire, Miss Mary Powers. That was 1983.
Princess Diana visited, Frank Sinatra and Rich Little were to do a fundraiser. Incredible times.
