A transformational $50 million investment from the Peter Gilgan Foundation marks the largest philanthropic gift in Ottawa’s history. The gift supports The Ottawa Hospital’s $500-million Campaign to Create Tomorrow, and in honour of the historical gift, The Ottawa Hospital will name the Peter Gilgan Critical Care Tower, which will house critical care services, such as the Trauma Centre, emergency services, and the ICU, for patients across our region and beyond.
“The Peter Gilgan Critical Care Tower will strengthen The Ottawa Hospital’s role as a leader in healthcare in Canada.”
— Cameron Love, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital
The Peter Gilgan Critical Care Tower will bring together a highly specialized team of physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, allied health professionals, social workers and spiritual care providers, working together to care for the hospital’s most critically ill and injured patients.
“The Peter Gilgan Critical Care Tower will strengthen The Ottawa Hospital’s role as a leader in healthcare in Canada. It will bring together critical care teams, advanced technology, and the resources they need to care for some of the most critically ill patients in our region, in an environment designed around the complex needs of patients and their families,” says Cameron Love, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital.
This extraordinary generosity is transformative for Ottawa. As the founder of Mattamy Homes, Canada’s largest new home construction and development company, Peter has spent decades creating places where people and families can build their lives and their futures.
He believes a thriving community is more than just a place to call home. It deeply depends on having access to world-class healthcare when we need it most.
“The Ottawa Hospital’s new campus is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to set a new standard for patient care, and I’m proud to support that vision and help make it a reality.”
— Peter Gilgan
“I’ve always believed that investing in healthcare is one of the most meaningful ways we can strengthen our communities,” says Peter. “Ottawa is our nation’s capital, and it deserves healthcare that reflects the very best of what Canada can offer. The Ottawa Hospital’s new campus is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to set a new standard for patient care, and I’m proud to support that vision and help make it a reality.”
This vision is the heart of the Campaign to Create Tomorrow: building a new hospital that will help reshape how care is delivered and ensure patients and families across our community have access to leading-edge care close to home.
“Peter has the vision to imagine what healthcare can become and the courage and commitment to help make that vision a reality. His leadership is helping us build a hospital that will set a new standard for patient care and serve our community for generations to come.” says Tim Kluke, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation, “Today is about more than an investment in a new hospital. It is a bold step toward a future where every patient has access to exceptional care, close to home.”
