POSITION SNAPSHOT

Position Type: Full-time Permanent (37.5 hours per week)

Annual Salary: The salary range for this position is $48.5k-$67k, with a current hiring range of $48.5k-$57k.

Experience: Preference will be given to candidates with 2-5 years’ experience in a relevant communications/marketing/writing role.

Vacation: 3 weeks per annum

Software: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to learn new software, particularly Wrike (project management).

Location: Hybrid options available, with onsite work conducted in Ottawa, Ontario.

Transportation: A driver’s license/private vehicle is required for this role.

Languages: English essential, French is considered a strong asset.

The Ottawa Hospital Foundation has launched the historic $500 million Campaign to Create Tomorrow, a multi-year campaign to support the construction of a new state-of-the-art hospital on Carling Avenue, as well as world-leading medical research. It’s the largest ever fundraising campaign in our region’s history, representing an ambitious vision for the future of healthcare.

The Campaign to Create Tomorrow already has overwhelming community support. Our team of fundraisers have raised $331m since launching the campaign 4 years ago, which includes some of the largest-ever donations in our city’s history.

What would my job look like?

  • Participate in our cross-departmental event planning meetings and contribute to the communications strategy that our working groups build for each event.
  • Write event content, such as speeches and key messaging, emails, web copy, invitations, and other event collateral.
  • Work independently and alongside our Visual Media Coordinator to prepare visual content for events (photography, video, branded content, graphic design materials, etc.), working with external vendors as necessary.
  • Assist with speaker scheduling, speaker coaching, and day-of speaker support.
  • Assist with event support (evening prior and day-of), particularly with tasks within the marketing/communications realm, such as program support, speaker support, run throughs, etc. (Event planning and logistics will remain with other team members).
  • Build relationships with key external stakeholders, namely our event speakers, community event organizers (i.e., donors), and various vendors (e.g., our event company, our rigging/AV company, photographers etc.), and media partners as needed.
  • Assist with content writing for other programs on an ad hoc basis, including social media, newsletters, web content, etc.
  • Project manage event deliverables (collateral, toolkits etc.) to ensure timely delivery.
  • Assist Lead, Storytelling and Media Relations in managing relationships with media outlets, journalists, and media partners to promote Foundation initiatives as needed.
  • Consult and collaborate with TOH and OHRI communications teams to ensure key messages and speakers for events align with the hospital’s strategic plan.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners at the Foundation and TOH, in addition to peers.
  • Engage in personal networking and leverage the capacity of other team members to make contacts and engage, secure, and retain donors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Post secondary degree or diploma in Events, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • 2-5 years’ experience with events and event communications.
  • 1-2 years with Media Relations or Public Relations is considered an asset
  • Experience and confidence working with senior leadership.
  • Exceptional professionalism: Good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and flexibility
  • Great communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients/stakeholders
  • Ability to work under tight schedules and pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability and the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities and time-sensitive deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Superior attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Embrace the Foundation’s culture of employee growth and development.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector or healthcare is considered an asset.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite are required, experience with Adobe Acrobat DC/Pro is considered an asset.
  • A functional level of proficiency in French is preferred, and fluent bilingualism would be considered a strong asset.

Operational requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to work outside of regular business hours when needed, including potentially evenings and weekends.
